Beyond Architecture, Beyond Design

Gu Zhenqing

The stones from other mountains can polish jade. Artistic practices beyond architecture and design can enable architects and designers to overcome the limitations of technical knowledge and lead to the continuous growth and renewal of practical knowledge. The production capacity and production experience gained by artists in the field of practical art functions have also become a way to draw inspiration for constantly activating, reflecting on, and correcting technical practices. Thinking and reflection, understanding and enlightenment can be obtained from the construction and deconstruction experience across eras and cultures, and even more from cross-border and cross-layer creative practices.

The formal languages of various arts and the skills of various craftsmen are becoming the dry goods and toys of super players beyond architecture and design in the cross-border experience of architects, designers, artists, and craftsmen. The human languages in the fields of architecture, design, art, and handcraft are no longer clearly divided, but blended with each other. In a broad sense, there are architecture and design beyond architecture and design. Besides architecture and design, all kinds of graphic art and spatial art that can be summarized into forms, rules and rules can also be architecture and design.

Beyond architecture and design, all things constitute ideal landscapes in the rational world of truth, goodness and beauty of human beings, reflecting tangible and intangible space, and echoing concrete and abstract art. All things have their own rules and forms for growth. This kind of rules and forms are purely natural and are natural construction methods. The ecological development of architecture and design is becoming increasingly close to and condescending to people's daily needs. Contemporary architecture and contemporary design are no longer as high and independent as geometricism, but have warmth, temperament, and are closer to human nature. Architecture and design are becoming an extension of human limbs, like a chair and a coat. The artificial order outside of architecture and design has the openness and sustainability of excluding various industry boundaries, cultural barriers and time and space barriers, and is infinitely close to the laws and rules of organic ecology.

The unique artistic contribution formed by the cross-border space beyond architecture and design is constantly being integrated into the text and context of contemporary society, complementing the symbolic and metaphorical system of contemporary art, and demonstrating a kind of knowledge production and humanistic progress in today's globalized society.

This "Beyond Architecture" art exhibition invited more than 60 (groups) of international and domestic architects, designers and artists to draw inspiration from the creative practice of cross-border space and cross-layer fields, and to let their imagination fly. The talented works attempt to explore and revive the Chinese genes, roots and subjectivity of contemporary humanistic society from multiple perspectives, and show the diversity of contemporary art expression, presentation and dissemination methods.。
